The Big Lift is a student-run volunteering, not-for-profit organisation, which was founded at the University of Technology, London in 2010.
As a student organisation the Big Lift understands the important role that students can make in the community and actively promotes engagement. This is all based on the philosophy of paying-it-forward.
The Big Lift runs an annual road-trip each July that lasts for nine days, and each year they ask for volunteers to visit and help under-resourced regional communities, thus creating a useful and uniquely powerful student-community experience.

Since its conception in 2010, Big Lift has successfully undertaken nine trips. But last year it was time for change and refinement after the 2017 initiatives of Little Lifts and Pay It Forward Week.
As any successful organisation has to do from time to time, Big Lift re-evaluated its core concepts and listened intently to feedback. So in 2018 it redefined itself and made improvements.
One of the major changes was to streamline its processes, and events. This will focus on how to make a bigger impact and to the wider community.
This year Big Lift is planning to go back to their roots and to visit Queensland between the 6th and 14th of July. In addition to the main trip, a Little Lifts trip was successfully undertaken in April to Cowra that helped out the community there with many exciting projects over a weekend.
To get involved and to jump on-board, Big Lift invites all UTS students no matter what degrees to join in on a road trip. This July the Big Lift trip to the rural communities of Victoria and NSW will be bigger than ever.
